For the Tortillas

  • 8 pieces Corn Tortillas Warm slightly to prevent cracking

Method

  • In a mixing bowl, mash the low sodium black beans until smooth. Stir in the diced white onion, minced jalapeño, cumin, chili powder, garlic powder, and a sprinkle of salt and pepper. If needed, add vegetable broth to achieve creamy filling.
  • Warm the corn tortillas slightly to make them pliable. Spoon the black bean filling onto each tortilla, roll them up tightly, and secure with a toothpick if necessary.
  • For frying: Heat canola oil in a skillet over medium heat. Fry flautas for 3-5 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
  • For baking: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Arrange flautas on a baking tray, brush lightly with oil, and bake for 16-20 minutes until crisp.
  • For air frying: Preheat air fryer to 390°F (199°C). Lightly brush flautas with oil, air fry in batches for 11-12 minutes.
  • Once cooked, let flautas cool slightly. Serve warm with guacamole, salsa, or hot sauce.

Notes

Optional: Garnish with fresh cilantro for added flavor and color.
